We saw the movie "Boiling Point" with the soundtrack by Danny May Orchestra and he played Dream and many more songs by Johnny Mercer. We would love to have this sound track but are unable to find it. Could you help us. Also we would be satisfied with another artist singing this song. (Dream, that is). thank you for your help. kay and ken

Can someone tell me what if any versions of "Dream" are still in print either as stand alone music or in anthologies? I have had some problem finding it.

Thanks,

Evan

I direct a barbershop chorus, and we're working on an arrangement of "Dream". I'd like to be able to give the guys a little background on the song. Was it actually written for the movie "Daddy Long Legs", or was it written previously and used in the movie? Who did the original recording, and when? Would appreciate any information or someone steering me to where the information is located. Thanks.

The song DREAM, was written by Johnny Mercer in 1944/45. It was the theme song on his daily radio show, THE JOHNNY MERCER MUSIC SHOP. originally recorded by THE PIED PIPERS. It was subsequently used in Daddy Long Legs.

Johnny Mercer wrote the lyric and music to DREAM in 1944. It was written as a Pop arrangement and the group "The Pied Pipers" made it famous. It was the theme song on Johnny's radio show, Johnny Mercer's Music Shop, and sung at the completion of each show by the Pied Pipers. The show was broadcast in the States but in addition the Armed Forces Radio Stations transcribed it, minus commercials, and the dicks were sent abroad to the servicemen and women.

Its subsequent use in shows, movies, was incidental. Also a big hit for Frank Sinatra.

If you look at these sections I think that they will be of interest:

So I have missed my chance to see the Broadway show Dream? Is there a revival or out-of-town performance ever going to happen? Did anyone film it?

Does anyone know was there a CD made of the Broadway show DREAM? Is it still available for purchase and if so where might we find it. We were fortunate to see the production and would like the music from it.

There was never a recording that was released.

For educational and research use.

Get in touch with that sundown fellow, As he tiptoes across the sand. He's got a million kinds of stardust, Pick your fav'rite brand, and:

Dream when you're feelin' blue, Dream, that's the thing to do.

Just watch the smoke rings rise in the air, You'll find your share Of memories there.

So dream when the day is thru, Dream and they might come true,

Things never are as bad as they seem, So dream, dream, dream.

This was the theme song of his show - Johnny Mercer's Music Shop..as well as the Broadway play in 1997.

I would like to know how many renditions of this song
have been published. I seem to remember an Andrews Sisters
recording. Is that true, and if so how might I find it?
Could you please list all the early recordings of this song.
I have Roy Orbison's version and would like others.

What is the show "Dream" (1997) that shows up behind many of the songs listed on the Johnny Mercer song list? It is not a movie, is it?

Thank you and also for the reply to my last question.

Unfortunately the production never completed a CD of
the Broadway show DREAM.

The only recording that is "show related" is John Pizzarelli's performance
of DREAM on one of his recent CD's. This was recorded in a studio, and not part of the DREAM production. (please see the
list of CD's available - that is accessible off
of the home page.

Do you have any information about production rights for Dream? Are they available and who is handling the rights?
