: While it's hard to pick just 5, here's my choices - all from Hollywood movies:

: Ac-Cent-Tchu-ate the Positive (HERE COME THE WAVES, 1944)
: Blues in the Night (BLUES IN THE NIGHT, 1941)
: Hooray for Hollywood (HOLLYWOOD HOTEL, 1937)
: Jeepers Creepers (GOING PLACES, 1938)
: Laura (LAURA, 1945)- lyrics by JM not heard in the film (written after the film was released)

: I think JM wrote some of the best movie lyrics and received 4 Oscars to prove it.

Certainly do not disagree with Roger's selections. But how about the three songs he wrote with the great Jerome Kern for the movie "You Were Never Lovlier", viz. Dearly Beloved, I'm Old Fashioned and the title song. And one of my favourites is the one song he wrote with the great Jimmy Van Heusen, I Thought About You. Great lyrics, great melody.
It also is special because of Mercer's love for the railroad which he so often used to cross the country.

When the world was young is the best song I have ever heard. I only heard Blossom Dearie sing it, but it was absolutely beautiful!

2. You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby.
3. In the Cool, Cool, Cool of the Evening.
4. Glow Worm.

Impossible to come up with five favorites, but here are five I like a lot:

Moon River
Accentuate the Positive
Days of Wine and Roses
That Old Black Magic
Baby, It's Cold Outside

Only Sondheim is a better lyricist. Hammerstein comes in third, followed by Cole Porter and Ira Gershwin.
