This song is referred to in the play "You Can't Take It With You", so I'm surprised it's so hard to find!

Where can I find the lyrics to Goody Goody on the internet?? Many Thanks!

I have found a reference on your page to the song "Goody goody". I am working with a group of dementia patients, one of whom keeps singing part of this song and we would dearly love to be able to get her the words for the whole song.

Would you be able to send me the words?

regards

Lynda

Lyric: Johnny Mercer Music: Matty Malneck 1936

For Educatonal and Research Use

You told me that there wasn't a lesson in lovin' You hadn't learned Oh yeah? Oh Yeah? You told me that you keep playing with fire Without getting burned. Oh yeah? Oh Yeah?

So you met someone Who set you back on your heels, Goody, goody! So you met someone And now you know how it feels, Goody Goody! So you gave her your heart too Just as I gave mine to you And you broke it in little pieces, Now how do you do? So you lie awake Just singing the blues all night, Goody Goody! So you think that love's A barrel of dynamite. Hooray and hallelujah! You had it comin' to ya. Goody Goody for him, Goody Goody for me, And I hope you're satisfied, you rascal you.

: was Goody Goody in a musical or movie, and which one?

____________

To the best of my knowledge this tune was simply a "popular tune", not from any show.

The music was written by Matty Malneck. Helen Ward sung it with the Benny Goodman orchestra.

Johnny Mercer also had a big hit with his vocal rendition of this lyric.

Some of the vocalists that were featured on original Sheet Music covers were:

Hal Kemp
Larry Taylor
Bill Scott
Abe Lyman
Frankie Lymon
Eddy Duchin
Vincent Lopez
Leo Reissman
Don Bestor
J. Grant
Tom Oakley
and last but not least--
Guy Lombardo

and I am sure that there must have also been others..
