I Do, Do, Do Like You

I Do, Do, Do Like You

Among the wonderful Mercer 78s my mother collected over the years is one I have never seen re-issued on LP or CD. Maybe someone else has! The song is a mock-Latin number, taking off on the popularity of Carmen Miranda and others. The lyrics begin: "I don't like men/ Women I don't like too/ Sometimes I don't even like myself, but I do do do like you!" It continues in this goofiness, including a sudden Mercer interruption during the instrumental interlude in which he says "Carmen! Bring a flashlight! I can't find the melody!", still in his Latin/Georgia accent.
OK, if nobody knows how to get it, try this: I have the 78. Who wants to do the transfer and reissue it? It's even better than I've described it, believe me.
Write any time. I play this stuff on the radio, so I'm always looking for things people should hear. I highly recommend the "Miss You, Mr. Mercer" CD recently released by Shari Lynn to any Mercer fans who don't own it already, too.

An early post to this board (9/20/97 @22:52:31) was about a song called "I Do, Do, Do Like You." It just so happened that I received the original sheet music to this song about two weeks ago. As a hobby, I make MIDI files of the original piano scores of old songs. I made a MIDI file of this song, "I Do, Do, Do Like You," a "Calypso Song" by songwriter Allie Wrubel in 1947, also the composer of the famous Latin-sounding tune called "The Lady In Red" (MIDI file of this one is available too). If anyone wishes to hear a MIDI file of these songs, obtain the lyrics to them, or get a cover photo, please e-mail me at harry_warren@hotmail.com

 or dj1981@onslowonline.net

. These files are free.

If you have any MIDI requests, please let me know what song(s) you would like to have. I must either already have the song in my collection or be supplied with the sheet music. Photocopies are fine as long as no notes are cut off.

I would also like to make a request of all who read this. Anyone owning original sheet music versions of songs by composer Harry Warren (a frequent collaborator with Johnny Mercer), please e-mail me. I would like to start a web site of my own much like Steve's in memory of Harry Warren and his work, and my main goal right now is collecting his music so I can make MIDI files of them and scan the cover pictures.
