The exact title is:

"I Wanna Be Around" this is the tune closely associated to Tony Bennett.

She wrote Johnny a handwritten note(actually on 2 pages taken from a daily calender) and mailed it to him. She actually mailed it to" Johnny Mercer-Songwriter-New York"..the post office forwarded it to the ASCAP office.

Two excellent research sources>

"My Huckleberry Friend" book- Bob Bach and Ginger Mercer. Llye Stuart publishers. 1982. page 198-199(includes photos of handwritten note)as well as the lyrics.

In March of 1971, Johnny Mercer appeared at the "92nd Street YMHA" in New York City for Maurice Levine's "Lyrics and Lyricists series". Fortunately the program was recorded, and it partially appears on DRG CD #5176 as "An Evening With Johnny Mercer".. on this CD you can hear Johnny talk about the pieces origins.

The CD and Books should be readily available either at the library or though stores.

I am researching Johnny's collaboration with Sadie
Vimmerstedt, who cowrote the words and music to
"I wanna hold your hand" (released in 1959). This
propelled Sadie to the national spotlight, which I am
researching along with her relationship with Johhny.
Any and all relevant information and sources requested.
Thanks!
Chris Dawson
