Hey, Steve!

I was looking for this song - as many others - and you probably will be
interested in this:

http://mahawa.jw-music.net/interviews/inter_longgoodbye.htm

Here Harry Connick, Jr sings this, so Sandra Lawrence is not the only one.

And of course we have this CD (the movie's soundtrack):

where Jack Sheldon and Dave Grusin Trio also executes it.

The interesting thing is that in film (Jack Sheldon) and in Harry Connick,
Jr's performance two lines of lyrics are different.

Thought it might be of interest for you to update the site.
Sincerely,
Andrey

saw a really old post of yours while crawling thru the net looking for the lyrics of this song. apparently nobody has bothered so far to transcribe and upload the lyrics. so decided to do it myself since the soundtrack album and the film are both personal favourites of mine. Here's the lyrics for you in the unlikely circumstance that you're still interested.

There's a long goodbye
And it happens everyday
When some passerby
Invites your eye
To come her way

Even as she smiles
A quick hello
You've let her go
You've let the moment fly
Too late you'd turn your head
You'd know you've said
The long goodbye

Can you recognise the pain
On some other street
Two ppl meet
As in a dream
Running for a plane
Through the rain
If the heart is quicker than the eye
They could be lovers
Until they die
It's too late to try
When a missed hello
Becomes the long goodbye

Soumik.

Is this impossible to find, or can someone help? I'm a librarian in Colorado and have been searching all over for this. I even have called the University in Georgia that has Mercer's papers and was told that they aren't sure if they have it, but; if they do they would only be released for scholarly research. Can anyone help us out?

Does anybody know of any complete recording of the song "The Long Goodbye," which Mercer co-wrote (with John Williams) for the 1973 Robert Altman film of the Raymond Chandler novel? It's performed over the credits by Jack Sheldon (among others) and it's the only song in the movie, aside from Mercer's "Hooray for Hollywood."

I cannot locate a soundtrack that is currently available and I do not even know if one was ever issued.
However, there is a video of this Elliot Gould Film that is for sale(I see that http://www.cdnow.com

) sells it  for 19.99 but I do not know if it available in the European Format for video.
