Ugly Chile(You're Some Pretty Doll) by Clarence Williams. Johnny Mercer recorded this on Capitol #268(78 RPM),1957..

You're so pretty oh! so pretty You're some pretty doll You've got the kind of eyes that seem to talk They make me get so nervous that I have to walk Oh! I love you, how I love you, More and more each day You've got some smile, you're pretty too-Ive got a million dollars that I'll spend on you Cause you're so pretty oh! o pretty, You're some pretty doll. Now that's the way my folks would always sing to me. When I was just a blossom on my family tree-But when I got around to da-tin' my first check(girl version- my first 'ick) This is what she/he said 'n' did she/he spread it thick: Hey! You're Ugly oh! so ugly You're some Ugly CHILE The clothes ou wear are not in style You look like an ape every time you smile, How I hate you, you alligator bait, you Why don't you lay down and die get my hair evry time you smile. How I hate you, you alligator bait, you An' here's the reason why You're knock kneed, pigeon toed, box ankled, too. You're big foot, barefoot slue footed to, How'd they ever get a pair of shoes on you.Your short and squatty, just nobody, You're some Ugly Chile) What a joke on your family, when along comes you, You're dippy, dappy, hey! slap happy. Your're some Ugly Chile (short and squatty just nobody Youre some Ugly Chile.

: Still doing "And The Bands Played On" for Brooklyn College's Institute For Retired Professionals and Executives.
: Tuesday's class will include some tape of an early BG Camel Caravan radio broadcast featuring Johnny Mercer as
his announcer, cohort, with some singing intros (i.e. Estrellita).

_______
Actually, Clarence Williams wrote the words and music to UGLY CHILE.
Mercer however, did have a very big hit with the song, on his own Label(Capitol)
Record #268.

The exact piece is titled: UGLY CHILE(You're Some Pretty Doll). "You're Some Pretty Doll" was originally
copyrighted in 1917 by Williams and Piron. The copyright on this, was renewed by Clarence Williams in 1945.
The music sheets are by "Shapiro and Bernstein" and were printed in either a green or blue font cover/

The words are unfortunately not in verse order. You may want to check with a large music dealer such a Carl Fischer in NYC to see if they still have reprint sheet music.

: Ugly Chile(You're Some Pretty Doll) by Clarence Williams. Johnny Mercer recorded this on Capitol #268(78
: RPM),1957..

This must have been a reissue. The original was recorded in 1947 and reached No. 22 on the Billboard
charts. That recording, long unavailable and intentionally omitted
from numerous anthologies of Johnny's Greatest Hits, presumably because of its
racial overtones. Insofar as I can remember having struggled to catch all the lyrics, I will edit below:

: You're so pretty
: oh!so pretty
: You're some pretty doll
: You've got the kind of eyes that seem to talk They
: make me get so nervous that I have to walk Oh! I
: love you, how I love you, More and more each day
: You've got some smile, you're pretty too-Ive got a million dollars that I'll spend on you Cause you're
: so pretty oh! o pretty, You're some pretty doll.
: Now that's the way my FAMILY would always sing to me. When I was QUITE SMALL. THEY THOUGHT I WOULD IMPROVE AND MELLOW WITH AGE.
FIRST DATE, WHAT DID THIS CHICK LAY ON ME?
:
: MAN! You're Ugly oh! so ugly You're some Ugly CHILE The clothes
: THAT YOU wear are not in style You look like A ape every time you smile, OH How I hate you, you alligator bait, you Why don't
: you lay down and die YOU'RE You're knock kneed, pigeon toed, box ankled, too. ( YOUR FAMILY'S BEEN CURSED AND IT FELL ON YOU
YOUR HAIR's ALL NAPPY, WHO's YOUR PAPPY YOU"RE SOME UGLY CHILE.

Dixieland break.

:
: You're big foot, barefoot slue footed to, How'd they ever get a pair of shoes on you.YOUR HAIR'S ALL NAPPY,
WHO'S YOUR PAPPY,
, You're some Ugly Chile)
:

The song is now available on the V-Disc CD series. along with nine other cuts. This one is in superb shape and worth the purchase of the entire CD.

For anyone who cares, the long out of print, original version is now available as part of the V-Disk series issued by Collector's Choice Music.    http://www.ccmusic.com

Apparently many V-disks (78s on a special type of vinyl) came into the hands of a Navy broadcast specialist who has preserved them and is now licensing their re-issue.
The 1947 version of Ugly Chile is in superb shape and the digitalization gives it a crystal clear sound. The disk features ten songs including Achchison and Goofus. Some of the cuts are a bit tinny, but for those of you who, like me, have been seeking a recording of Ugly Chile - in my case about 40 years - this one can't be passed up.
The disk sells for $9.95, contains about 32 minutes of music but the Chile recording is worth the price of the disk IMHO. See related post above in which I attempt to correct some previously transcribed lyrics with their
original Mercer version.

Am still searching for a recording by Clarence Williams who was one of the first really good black bandleaders (dates from WW I into the thirties). The original has
what today might be considered politically incorrect racial barbs - but the song, as originally conceived was probably poking lighthearted fun at the "uglies" at a time when insensitivity was not the issue it is today.
The arrangement is in a Dixieland style and is first rate.
