To all of you radio listeners of the old WQEW 1560 AM when it use to be an American Popular Standards format. Ever since WQEW was sold to Disney and became a children's format back in December 1998, here are a couple of stations in the New York area so you can now be able to catch and revive the greatest American Popular Standards of all time. The first is radio station WVNJ AM 1160 located in Teaneck, New Jersey and you can even listen to them online at http://www.wvnj.com  The second is radio station WLUX AM 540 located in Islip, Long Island and you can also listen to them online at http://www.wlux.com  Jonathan Schwartz is on the air every Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon til 3PM on WNYC AM 820 and 93.9 FM and online at http://www.wnyc.org   For those of you American Popular Standards people who are big Sinatra fans, you can hear the chairman of the board on WVNJ every Saturday from 10AM til 2PM and on WLUX every Saturday from 4PM til 7PM. You can also listen to Sinatra hosted by Sid Mark on radio station WPHT AM 1210 located in Philadelphia every Friday and Saturday evenings from 7PM til 10PM and on Sundays from 8AM til 1PM. This station is basically a talk format but they feature Sid and Sinatra during the hours he's on the air. During the night time, the station has a very strong frequency when it's easy to receive it clear from long distance. Sid Mark also syndicates his program the sounds of Sinatra on over 200 stations across the USA and Canada. If you reside other than the New York area, please check your local radio listings under Adult Standards wherever you're located to see if you can get Sid's program in your area. I hope this information is helpful to everyone and keep listening to the greatest American Popular Standards music of all time.

Dear Friend:

News has just been announced which is nothing short of tragic.

WQEW 1560-AM, the home of American popular standard music in New York City, has been sold by the New York Times to the Walt Disney Company which plans to change the format to children's programming.

For the first time since WNEW went on the air in the 1920s, New York City will be without a radio station devoted to the music of Irving Berlin, Cole Porter, George Gershwin, Richard Rogers, Jule Styne, Leonard Bernstein, Stephen Sondheim, Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Mel Torme, Ella Fitzgerald, Nancy Lamott, Mandy Patinkin, the exciting new cabaret sensations of today like David Campbell and Linda Eder, and so many other greats.

Jonathan Schwartz, a radio personality on WNEW and WQEW for the last 30 years, has determined to found a new station to return this music to the airwaves of New York City in an even bolder and more ambitious manner than has been done at WQEW. I have committed all of the time and energy I can spare to help him achieve this objective.

The immediate needs is as follows. Please think of people you know who have the passion and the means to make a substantial investment in the new station, or who you think might be able to contribute ideas toward this new venture. I ask you to please give this a lot of thought and send me any names or suggestions you can think of.

With the commitment of enough individuals, we can turn this tragic circumstance into a triumph and share the greatest music ever written with an even larger audience.

THIS IS AN OPPORTUNITY TO GET IN AT THE VERY GROUND FLOOR OF AN EXCITING PROJECT WITH PROFOUND IMPLICATIONS FOR THE MUSICAL CULTURE OF AMERICA IN THE 21ST CENTURY. I thank you for your help.

I have found a station, 1260 WRIE which has a similar format. But not the Big Broadcast. It comes in here, up 60 miles west Toronto from Erie, PA.
