Johnny was married to Ginger (Meehan) and they had two children. Amanda, known as MANDY, as in the Mercer song Mandy is Two, and John Jefferson.

He passed away in 1976, from the effects of a brain tumor.

: : At the risk of being morbid -- or at least indelicate -- can anyone tell me the cause of Johnny Mercer's death? We lost him much too young!

: On June 25th, 1976 Johnny passed away after long suffering with a Brian Tumor.

: What do you consider the definitive biography of Johnny? I'd like very much to learn more about the man behind
those dulcet tones. Many thanks,
: Jackie..

At this point in time there is just one book that has ever been published:

"Our Huckleberry Friend-The Life, Times and Lyrics of Johnny Mercer."
Bob Bach and Ginger Mercer (Johnny's late wife- Ginger passed in 1994).
Published 1982 by Lyle Stuart. If your local library does not have it, they can get it through interlibrary loan. It is also
still in print at about $20.
in hardbound edition.

: I belong to a Book Club. The past several years we have reviewed the life and music and an artist. We would like to
do Johnny Mercer, however, we are having trouble locating information regarding his entire life. Would you happen to
know a source for this information?

: Your response would be appreciated as soon as possible.
: Thanks in advance.
