Let us hope that the great Johnny Mercer is never forgotten.
Someone has thoughtfully posted the lyrics to "Hooray
for Hollywood" here http://www.johnnymercer.com/Hollywood.htm.
I am certain that the reference to "bazookas" in the song refers
to the then very popular Bob Burns, a country boy in the Andy Griffith
mold who came from a small town and played a kazoo-like instrument he
called a "bazooka". (It ultimately gave its name to the WWII
rocket launcher.) I get the double entendre, but I do think that this is
the reference if you look at the context of the song. |
