Comments: My mother, Emma Kelly was a friend and musical colleague of Johnny's. And our entire family grew up playing and singing his music all of our lives.

I am priveleged to have met him, and more so, to have gotten to know him and extraordinary music.

Comments: I've always loved and admired Johnny Mercer--and so did my dad (who was an avid banjo player and band member, way back when there were "Speak-Easies" in which you could perform in front of fun people).

Now I want to introduce my son, who's also a player and singer, to this genious, Johnnie Mercer.

Comments: I am a WWII veteran. "Blues in the Night" was a popular tune while I was in High School in Raton, NM, and it was especially real to me when I was on any troop train. At one time I had memorized all of the words. I still remember many of them--it tells of a frequent story to both young men and young women of that era.

Comments: I am enjoying Johnny's web site and wonder if anyone may have known either of my parents. My father was trumpet player Red Borland. He played with, among others, Freddy Martin, Orin Tucker, Stan Kenton, Russ Morgan, Frankie Carle, Geo Liberace, Nappy Lamare, Pete Bellman, Freddy Morgan. Mostly late 30's and through the 40s and 50s, I believe.
My Mom was a member of a singing group called The Smart Set, 3 girls and a guy. They sang on several AFRS shows, GI Journal, Command Performances, and were guest on The Alan Young radio show at least 10 times. I'd love to hear from anyone who may have known either of them. Please email me.
Best, Mary

Comments: My Dad just told me an incredible story about the song "Dream". Dad was in the USO Army Band stationed in England in "43/44. He was 1st chair trumpet. He and 2 other members of the 825 Convalescent Center Band wrote a song called "Dream" (When you're feelin' blue) and it became their theme song. They never got it copywritten. It wasn't until after the war and he was back in the states that he heard it on the radio. He said when he tried to confront Johnny about it Johnny said he couldn't remember where he heard it so he couldn't give credit where credit was due. My Dad said that this became a recurrent event with other songs that were written by other guys in the USO bands. So, there you have it. My Dad is 89 now so he can't remember the names of the name of one of the other guys, just that his nickname was "Feets" and he was from N.Y. and the other was Tony Campagna from CA. I just wish I could do something to give that awesome song back to him. He's an incredible Dad. I'm sorry if this information upsets any fans of Johnny Mercer, but if this is all I can do to give my Dad credit where credit was due in 1944, then let it be done.

I received a xerox of "Oops!" from you and thank you very much. I was searching for downloadable sheet music and don't recall requesting this or paying for it, but certainly am pleased to have it. Did I order it and just forgot I did? I downloaded an MP3. Planning to do the tune on my next CD.

You may hear my first CD at www.cdbaby.com/ellifordyce.

Thanks again.

I met you a long time ago when I was a little girl. We used to visit my great grandma at the Tybee Nursing Home, where your moma lived at the time. I remember they all made a fuss over you, but not till now, did I realize what a strong impact you've had on this world. Tell Nanny and Moma Ferrell I said hello and I love them very much. See you in a while.
love,
Jenny
