I am researching the
early history of Capitol Records for my blog
(http://popculturefanboy.blogspot.com) for Capitol's 65th
anniversary
(June 1, the anniversary of the stamped receiving by
California's
Board of Equilization in Sacramento, California of the amendment
to
the company's articles of incorporation which changed from the
name
from Liberty Records to Capitol Records, Inc., according to
copies I
got from the board) and was wondering if you have ever come
across
something that it today's terms might be considered a
"mission
statement" by the founders as to why they formed Capitol
Records?
Something like "We started Capitol Records
because...", or "...in
order to...", or "...as...".
I've gone through copies of Capitol's 50th and 60th anniversary
books,
Billboard's supplements for Capitol's 25th and 50th
anniversaries,
issues of Down Beat that had articles about Capitol's 1st and
10th
annversaries, Gene Lee's biography of Johnny Mercer, Dave
Dexter,
Jr.'s autobiography "Playback", as well as listening
to promotional
records that Capitol put out to celebrate their 10th and 25th
anniversaries and to commemorate the ground breaking of The
Capitol
Tower. So far, I've found a lot of info on how the company was
started
and what contributed to its early success, but nothing direct as
to
why it was formed.
Many thanks in advance for any help,
