Comments: I'm second to no one in my appreciation of Johnny Mercer's words and singing. I was kind of amazed that your site had no links to any Hank Mancini sites. Is that on purpose for some reason?

They were a great team. "Charade" has actually been my favorite of their many collaborations.

Comments: We are having a theme "Accentuate The Positive" at our Long-Term Care Facility on good things that happen at our facility & some people in my office said they had never heard of this song. I'm 51 years old & my daddy use to listen to Johnny Mercer & the Andrew Sisters all the time & I remembered him
singing this song to me from years ago when I was around five years old. I love the old songs. Wonderful website. . .

Comments: I checked A&E Biography listings--no biography of Mercer on video. I have an extensive collection of Mercer recordings including the evening of Johnny Mercer at the YHMA in New York (1977). Saw the Good Companions in London in 1974 starring John Mills and Judi Dench. I guess that it was too British to travel to Broadway. However, Johnny did some duets with Bing Crosby from the score, which I have on both LP and CD. Haven't found a print biography of Mercer -- Just excerpts in a variety of books I own. Why not a video and a good biography?

Forgot to complete my address. I have visited this site many times and have had it as a favorite for almost 2 years. Originally from a link with the Big Band Database (a great site)--

Comments: SAVE THE BONES FOR HENRY JONES CAUSE HENRY DON'T EAT NO MEAT!!!!!I love that song. Just recently found out Johnny sings that song with a duet from Nat King Cole. I have become a fan of the great Johnny Mercer in the past two years and wish they made more songs like this. My grandparents who are in their 80's love this type of music and I wish I could have grown up in that era. Wonderful man! Wonderful voice! I find myself humming his tunes to my children who end up singing along to his music while I have it blaring in the kitchen while making dinner. Thanks for the awesome tribute to one of the greatest.

I also had the honor of being referred to as her number one fan by the truly great Maggie Whiting, and had the distinct honor of meeting with her several times. Thank you for the honor of participating in this little jaunt through musical history. Truly both Maggie and Johnny are "Too Marvelous for Words."

Comments: Hi, Just listened to Johnny and Margaret Whiting sing "Baby, It's Cold Outside." Hey, I know it's March! Always loved his music. My mother and her two sisters sung on WSM Radio in the 30's (The Bond Sisters) discovered by the Vagabonds. Beasley Smith played piano with them(He was later with Dinah Shore). They had several occasions to sing with Mr. Mercer so I have some good memories.

I began searching the net for the lyrics and found it at last. I never knew Mr. Mercer, but i think i have to thank him for this very simple, yet very beautiful song.(",)

To all of you radio listeners of the old WQEW 1560 AM when it use to be an American Popular Standards format. Ever since WQEW was sold to Disney and became a children's format back in December 1998, here are a couple of stations in the New York area so you can now be able to catch and revive the greatest American Popular Standards of all time. The first is radio station WVNJ AM 1160 located in Teaneck, New Jersey and you can even listen to them online at http://www.wvnj.com  The second is radio station WLUX AM 540 located in Islip, Long Island and you can also listen to them online at http://www.wlux.com  Jonathan Schwartz is on the air every Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon til 3PM on WNYC AM 820 and 93.9 FM and online at http://www.wnyc.org   For those of you American Popular Standards people who are big Sinatra fans, you can hear the chairman of the board on WVNJ every Saturday from 10AM til 2PM and on WLUX every Saturday from 4PM til 7PM. You can also listen to Sinatra hosted by Sid Mark on radio station WPHT AM 1210 located in Philadelphia every Friday and Saturday evenings from 7PM til 10PM and on Sundays from 8AM til 1PM. This station is basically a talk format but they feature Sid and Sinatra during the hours he's on the air. During the night time, the station has a very strong frequency when it's easy to receive it clear from long distance. Sid Mark also syndicates his program the sounds of Sinatra on over 200 stations across the USA and Canada. If you reside other than the New York area, please check your local radio listings under Adult Standards wherever you're located to see if you can get Sid's program in your area. I hope this information is helpful to everyone and keep listening to the greatest American Popular Standards music of all time.

Michael

Comments: Johnny Mercer & Lorenz Hart - two of the greatest lyricists of all time!! Take any of Mercers' lyrics and they stand alone from the music - the music adds to the words, but the words are most important. Take, as an example, this from "Glow Worm" - 'you are equipped with tail light neon'. Or how about 'my Huckleberry friend' from "Moon River"?
The man was a poet and had a depth of soul not found in many of today's' so-called songwriters. One could spend a pleasurable day just reading his lyrics (with which we have become so familiar that the music would enter our head without even trying). A true genius who remains alive in all us geezers. Thanks, Johnny - you crossed Moon River in style!!!

I can't remember what the show was all about, but you were allowed to go right up to the performers while they were singing.
