It is a very rare song. It's called "The Facts of Life". I read that the song was sung in the film with Bob Hope and Lucille Ball, and was performed by Steve and Eydie. He was and is an American institution. No visit to his native Savannah is complete without paying homage to his Bonaventure Cemetery grave site, where "The Angels Sing," and to the basement cabaret of the "Olde Pink House" restaurant on Reynold's Square, where a gracious Southern songstress nightly fills the air with Mercer's melodies-- by request.

I live in Edinburgh, Scotland and had the pleasure of actually meeting Johnny Mercer way back in the summer of 1968. My mother at the time ran the cocktail bar in the Mount Royal Hotel in Princess Street, which looks directly on to the famous Edinburgh Castle. I was 21 years old and had recently married. I had left work, gone to spend a lunchtime with my Mum and watch the world go by. The Mount Royal was a hotel frequented by the rich and famous and while chatting Mr.Mercer appeared and my mother casually introduced him to me. He was charming and said "Lovely to meet you, I'm Johnny Mercer". I immediately replied "Not THE Johnny Mercer". He assured me he was and was genuinely amazed that someone so young knew of him. Although my life at that time was full of mini skirts and The Beatles I indeed know of the great man, probably because my parents had always liked music and therefore some things rub off on you. He was a joy to talk to and on leaving requested my address and promised to send some L.P.'s. True to his word he indeed send the famous Bobby Darin duo L.P. (this was an extra bonus as Bobby was, still is, and always will be one of my favourite entertainers). He enclosed a short personal note which I still treasure. My other treasure is a Christmas Card sent to us which the fairly long lyrics were penned by him. It has a photo on the front of himself and family. Finally, I would like to say how impressed I am that his memory is being kept alive and for a guy who gave so much to the world through his words this is a fitting tribute.
