As a photographer for PEOPLE, I was privileged and very pleased to have had the opportunity to photograph and interview Johnny in London in 1974, just before "Good Companions" opened. He was open and witty and a very good subject over the several days I joined him roaming around London. I enjoyed using the site for research, but feel it could be a little more complete. And, of course, I've been a fan of his music from long before I met him. Thank you.

Great site, all the things I always wanted to know about Johnny, (and others). I grew up listening to   J M's music, singing and playing ,them ,in particular ,his collaboration with Harry Warren., produced many gems never to be bettered or repeated,( pity) but that era is past and we and music must go on ,but will popular music ever reach the heights, it attained ,with the likes of Johnny Mercer, I doubt it? Thanks for the site. Ernie.

I wanted to know if the song 'Sorry' recorded, as far as I am aware, only by Doris Day was specially written by Johnny Mercer for her. I entered the magic keyword 'Johnny Mercer' on the internet and I was simply amazed to see this wonderful site unfold. What a great tribute to one of the greatest men of music. You guys are doing a great job Johnny himself would have been very proud of. I thank you, Steve Taksler, for sending me a copy of 'Sorry' all the way from Columbus, NJ. Much appreciated.
I sure will visit this site to learn more - it is a superb library at a click of the mouse.
Well done and thanks to all contributors for this pleasure treasure!

Comments: Thanks so much. I play with a big band and my conductor's brother is also a music teacher. Since he does not have access to the internet he asked me to see if I could find the words to "Hooray for Hollywood", I believe to teach to his vocal students. Since I think that Johnny Mercer is a genius musically, I was glad to do this. This site is a real treat. It's a wonderful thing that his music continues.
Thanks again.

Comments: Hello. This week I screened, for the upteeth time, Robert Altman's still rather controversial 1973 movie "The Long Goodbye," staring Elliot Gould, Sterling Hayden, and Henry Gibson. This was a present day version of Raymond Chandler's last Phillip Marlowe Mystery that some critics derided at the time, while some, like Pauline Kael, hailed as a classic. Never a hit, it's a funny and beautiful film many still consider Altman's best.

Anyway, one of the film's subtle jokes is that it's score is a single song played in endless changes, from cool jazz to grocery store muzak. The lyric, by Johnny, appears in several versions, the tune is by John Williams, who scored Altman's seemingly lost "Images" as well. It struck me as funny that this collaboration between whom many would consider the greatest film score man ever and the century's greatest writer of lyrics has never turned up on a record anywhere! It is, by the way, an excellent song. Thanks for the helpful and informative cite.

After searching without success for what seemed a very long time, I stumbled by some kind of happy circumstance upon this wonderful treasure of Johnny Mercer and, like many others, found all those songs I've heard since I was a kid, all in one place. Amazing....Now, perhaps, I can finally find a copy of Midnight Sun words and music. I lent my only copy to a friend about 20 years ago and haven't seen it since. I'd be most grateful if you could point me to wherever I can get another copy. Aloha,.... Cyrus Faryar,.... and thanks for this great archive of a wonderful man.

Comments: Love all of his tunes and songs, what affiliation did he have with Satin Doll
and I Love Piano, I have a few of Tony's CD's and he refers to Johnny Mercer and Gus Kahn his buddy. I wanted to ask another question, how may I get a C D of Johnny's music, well one song in particular; "The First Baseball Game" sung by Nat King Cole, did he (Johnny) put that out or has it been put on a CD of a medley of songs or ETC. For Mr. Cool, I have the Lyrics for; "The First Baseball Game", we did that song in a skit of a play and the theme was sports, we do one every three years here. I'll dig them up and send them to your "E" or put them in the guest book whichever you prefer.
Carl

Comments: Looking for the sheet music for the soundtrack to 'Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil' I looked up Johnny Mercer who wrote or made famous all the songs on the album. I fell in love with this soundtrack after borrowing it from a friend who knew I liked 'jazzy stuff'. For those of you who haven't heard it, KD Lang, Rosemary Clooney, and Tony Bennet all do marvelous renditions as do MITGOGAE's actors and director (namely Kevin Spacey doing 'Old Black Magic, and Clint Eastwood's rendition of 'Ac-cent-u-ate the Positive').
Still can't find the sheet music though.. Can anyone help me?

I stumbled onto this fantastic resource by accident...I was looking at various references to Susannah McCorkle's career which was cut tragically short this year. The bright side of tonight's journey was discovering your website, music list, original cover art, etc.

Thank you.
