I found your website while preparing for a performance of Mercer songs for my grandparents at their retirement community. I fell in love with Mercer while living in Savannah, and have never truly recovered from moving back up north. Thanks for the resources!

I am a true fan of jazz all types and have rediscovered the songbooks of Johnny Mercer through (Midnite in the Garden of Good and Evil). It's wonderful Hollywood has played a significant part in keeping his magic & music alive for generations to come.

I have just discovered your great site. Many people only think of Johnny Mercer as a great songwriter. I also consider him a great vocalist. Capitol records should release all of his recordings on CDs and keep them available for the next century. Without Johnny Mercer there would be no Capitol Records.

Just wanted to let you know that vocalist Bobbe Norris presented a week of shows at The Plush Room in San Francisco in May entitled "Too Marvelous For Words: The Lyrics of Johnny Mercer". The show was very well recieved and reviewed in the San Francisco Chronicle by Steven Winn. The review was reprinted on the Songbirds website. Larry Dunlap (Bobbe's pianist and husband)

What a great web site. I'm a Georgia girl from middle Georgia married to a man from Savannah and my family used to vacation there as a little girl. I'm home sick and this site is special. We're planning to retire there. I want to come home. Thank you for taking me there awhile!

Hi .. I am Johnny's niece (great niece). He was my grandfather's brother and a great guy. I remember him coming over to our house when he was in town. It's so great to see a site like this. What a tribute. I have some pretty cool family mementos that might make a nice addition. Johnny used to send out these really funny Christmas cards which had a long poem about everyone in Savannah that he knew. Best wishes and thanks for keeping his memory alive.

Your good, informative site is a tribute to Mercer. Can you recommend a good biography of Mercer--or autobiography? Thanks.

Dear Friends, I, too, am a Johnny Mercer aficionado. My name is Ray Reach. I am director of Jazz Studies at the University of Alabama in Birmingham. I hold bachelors Degrees in voice and piano (Birmingham-Southern College), Masters Degrees in Music Education (Univ of Alabama) and Composition (Eastman School of Music) and the Doctor of musical Arts in Composition from North Texas State University, where I played piano and sang with the One O'Clock Jazz Lab Band. In addition to teaching and performing, I produce recordings (some 23 in the last 3 years). I am currently beginning a project of all Johnny Mercer classics with Jazz Orchestra Accompaniment (myself on lead vocals). I am writing all the arrangements. As soon as I have some rough mixes, I will be happy to send you a copy. I am writing this message to ask for any help you might offer in facilitating my project. I don't need money, I just need knowledge of Mercer's songs. Perhaps you can help. Gratefully, Ray Reach 207 Three Sons Drive Birmingham, AL 35226 Home: (205) 822-5689 Cellular: (205) 862-6389
