Written and Recorded by Chris Chandler

On November 6, 2005 Chris Chandler will have a CD Release Celebration at Tybee Island Community Center. Many local officials and Tybee and Savannah residents will attend a late afternoon of food, spirits, music and door prizes.  Chris Chandler’s new band King Ivory will entertain with selections from the new CD of the same name.

Chris and his band King Ivory have recorded this new CD that is sure to make you cry, smile and dance. Each original song has its own story, from piano bars to lost love, gospel to blues.  With New Orleans blues, R&B, and jazz fusion with soul and mambo rhythms, there is something in this collection of songs to please everyone.

Chris Chandler, a Savannah Native, now residing at Tybee Island, has been playing piano and composing since childhood. An ASCAP Award recipient in 2002 for his composition Piano Roll Rag, Chandler has recorded five CD’s and composed hundreds of songs in many musical styles ranging from Rag time and Ballad to Popular, Country and Rock. Chandler performs all over the southeast and southwest United States and has toured Russia.

Chris was privileged to work with Paul Hornsby on this new project.  Paul Hornsby was the co-producer and engineer for King Ivory. He has recorded platinum albums at Capricorn Records for The Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, Wet Willie and others.  He was a member of Hour Glass, which became The Allman Brothers Band.   He has worked with Duane and Greg Allman, Dr. John, Chuck Leavell, Charlie Daniels and now King Ivory. He is currently owner and engineer for Muscadine Studios, Vineville Ave., Macon, GA.  Working with Paul Hornsby has given King Ivory a sense of southern tradition that is sure to make us all perk up and listen.

Famous for his band Southern Charm and Swing based in Atlanta, Chris Chandler plays for corporate and private events in the southeast – including Highlands, St. Simons, Winston-Salem, Charlotte, Richmond, Hartwell, Sea Island, Hilton Head and in the southwest in Houston and Galveston.  In the summer or 2003 his band toured Russia- with performances in St. Petersburg and Moscow.  Locally he can be seen playing at Jazz’d, Il Pasticcio and at private events in location like the Mansion, the Hyatt, the Hilton and the Westin.

There are already great thing happening with this new CD!

In this 1993 release, Chris Chandler pays tributess to the works of Johnny Mercer. There is an array of fine musicians and vocalists that gives this CD the "big band" sound. When I first listened to his renditions of these American music standards I heard a mix of Pizzarrelli, Darin and Connick--The voice though is distinctly Chris Chandler's, he creates beautiful love ballads from poetry.

CD's are available at $11.95 each,(directly through Chris Chandler), postpaid to any address in the United States. Please e-mail first for additional postage to other countries.Upon request CD's can be autographed.

QUIEREME Y VERAS

In 1954, Johnny Mercer wrote the lyric and Jose Antonio Mendez the music for a tune "Every Now and Then". This became known as Quierme Y Veras (Want (or love) Me and You Will See).

Trying to get the song recorded Johnny wrote a note to Southern Music:

.

It took 47 years, but thanks to Chris Chandler, Johnny's dream has become a reality.

I mentioned this to Chris, and he obtained the license to record, and as they say the rest is history.

For Educational and Research Use:

"Quiereme Y Veras"

I only heard her murmur

"Quiereme Y Veras"

Then something happened to my heart

I felt it start

Pounding like the sea

"Quiereme Y Veras"

I held her close and answered

"Quiereme Y Veras"

Not even knowing where it led

Or that I'd said

"Love me and you'll see"

I'll never understand how,

without knowing,

I could make the right replies

When I held her hand

I spoke her language

Just as she read my eyes

Needless to remark

I never will forget that whisper in the dark

It brought another world to me

Because you see

I loved her and I saw

Or as she would say

"Quiereme Y Veras"
